Custom Engagement Ring Toronto: How One Bride Found the Perfect Stone to Tell Her Story

One of my favourite things about designing a custom engagement ring in Toronto is that moment when the plan changes — and it changes for all the right reasons.

When this couple first reached out, the bride-to-be had a clear vision: a green stone. She'd done her research, she knew what she was drawn to, and she was ready. As for the design itself — a marquise-cut centre stone with marquise accents and small round diamonds on the side — she had that locked in.

But then came the stone selection. And that's where the story took a turn neither of us expected.

This is something I see often in my studio — a client arrives with one idea and discovers something completely different once they're holding the stones in person. Photos on a screen just can't replicate that experience.

During our stone selection session, the bride-to-be kept gravitating toward a yellow diamond. It wasn't what she'd planned. But it spoke to something deeper. Her name carries the warmth and richness of the autumn season, and that golden hue? It was like the stone already knew her.

She looked at it, and I could see the shift. This wasn't about colour theory or what's trending — this was about identity. The green stone was beautiful, but the yellow diamond was her.

With the stone chosen, we moved into the making. The design featured a marquise yellow diamond as the centre stone, flanked by marquise accent stones and delicate round diamonds — all set in warm 14-karat yellow gold.

The marquise cut is one of those shapes that demands attention. It elongates the finger, catches light from every angle, and has this inherently regal quality. Pairing it with a yellow diamond and yellow gold created a cohesive warmth — like the whole ring was glowing from the inside out.

Every detail was intentional. The accent marquise stones frame the centre without competing with it, and those little round diamonds add just the right amount of extra fire along the band. It's bold, but it's also deeply personal — which is exactly what a custom engagement ring should be.
